Bost Angler Of The Year 2006

With the end of the 2006 schedule comes the crowning of a new Champion and this year's winner is no stranger to the title.

Cliff Bost dominated the club and ended up in the top spot by a 27 pound margin over second place.

Cliff won tournaments at Lakes Seminole, Eufaula and Guntersville, which happen to be the best big fish lakes on our schedule. That added to a consistent catch throughout the year gave Cliff a lead that was too tough to beat.

Congratulations!

Lanier On The Hunt

Lanier Hunt is on a roll. After a several-tournament hiatus, Lanier is back and it seems he is not playing around. He joined us for the last two tournaments of the year and took first place in both.

November's tournament was held on Lake Oconee as usual, and, as usual, it was tough fishing. Lanier weighed in only three fish for a total weight of 7.28 pounds and took the win.

Second place went to Andy Treon who had just two keepers. One of them was the big fish of the day—a 4.31 pounder.

James Kelley beat Ronnie Hendrickson out of third by mere ounces. They both weighed solo fish of 2.20 pounds and 1.92 pounds, respectively.

December found the club at Lake Lanier—Lanier's home lake. The fish were deep and the bite wasn't near as good as it could have been.

Lanier (Hunt) found the fish and weighed in a limit worth 11.32 pounds, including the big fish of 3.54 pounds.

Second went to Mark Ward who weighed in three fish and 5.89 pounds.

Bud Whatley placed third with a solo 2.95 pound spot, while James Kelley took fourth with a single 2.25 pounder.

Bost Wins A Tough Guntersville Tourney

Cliff Bost took the win this month up on Lake Guntersville. With just two fish each day (that's how tough it was) Cliff totaled 12.92 pounds, including Sunday's big fish, a four pounder.

Tom Nicodemus took second place with a lone fish each day. The Saturday fish was a near pot busting lunker that weighed 5.81 pounds. Tom had a total of 8.99 pounds.

Third place went to Mike Brunett. Mike had two fish on Sunday that weighed a total of 5.23 pounds. Andy Treon placed fourth with two fish and 4.65 pounds.

Honorable mention goes to Tim Griffin who caught two spots on Sunday. No one else weighed a fish.

The rat bite was kind of on. More so than it has been in the past tournaments we have held on Guntersville. Most of the fish that were caught came from the matted grass on frogs.

Another West Point Win For Treon

After taking the summer off, September found us back at West Point Lake for a one-day tournament. The weather actually treated us pretty well except for the afternoon heat.

Andy Treon Took the win with a limit of five spots and a total weight of 7.38 pounds. He owes it all to his partner and guide, Cliff Bost. Cliff not only put him on the fish, he let Andy catch the bigger ones.

Cliff finished second with a limit of spots that weighed 5.48 pounds.

Third place and big fish went to Tom Nicodemus. Tom had the only largemouth (2.92 pounds). His three fish weighed 4.89 pounds.

Leo Perkins rounded out the top four with four fish and 4.81 pounds.

Next up is Lake Guntersville on October 14-15.

Ronnie Wins At Sinclair

Ronnie Hendrickson won the June tournament at Lake Sinclair. With an early limit, Ronnie had a total weight of 9.74 pounds.

Second place went to Leo Perkins who had four fish and 7.72 pounds. Mike Brunett weighed two fish at 6.62 pounds including a 5.20 pound lunker that took the big fish money.

Fourth place went to the club's newest CPA, Don DeHaven. Don had two fish and a total weight of 3.32 pounds.

We're taking the summer off and will fish West point on September 16. The next club meeting is Thursday, September 7.

Norton Jim Wedowee Wins

The club decided to change lakes this month and chose to fish Lake Wedowee over Hartwell. The driving factor was the price of gas and the fact that the slot limit has been removed for spotted bass on Wedowee.

Jim Norton put together a limit of spots that weighed 7.54 pounds and took the win, edging out Leo Perkins by less than a pound. Leo also had a limit of spots. His total was 6.64 pounds—a second place finish in his first tournament as an official member.

Third went to Bud Whatley. Bud had four fish that weighed a total of 4.94 pounds. Tom Nicodemus also had four and a weight of 4.06 pounds, good for fourth place.

Jim Daughtry had the big fish of the day, a 3.07 pound spot.

The cold front that preceded the tournament seemed to change the bite. Some of our fish just weren't there, while others didn't have a problem finding them. Everyone had a problem finding good fish, and no "over" largemouth were caught.

Lake Sinclair is next month.

Treon Wins At West Point

Well, we can't blame the weather because this time it was pretty close to perfect. No cold fronts, a lot of sun and warm weather, moderate southwest winds and a full moon in mid April. What more could one ask for?

After a tough start to the year, Andy Treon finally managed to catch a few fish. He had a limit of fish that included a couple of largemouth and weighed 8.32 pounds. Jim Daughtry missed a limit (and probably the win) by one fish. His total weight was 6.23 pounds.

George Edwards showed up and had the only other limit and a weight of 6.04 pounds. Zach Hildebrand weighed in four fish at 5.34 pounds.

The spots were biting great the day before the tournament but the largemouth were nowhere to be found. Saturday was tougher for catching shallow spots but a few largemouth showed up at the scales.

Next up is Lake Wedowee on May 13.

Bost Back On Top

Thanks to his boat-owning non-boating partner (some like to be referred to as a co-angler), Cliff Bost was once again on the fish at Lake Eufaula.

For the fourth consecutive time, we had a cold front blow through a day or so before the tournament. The reports were that the fish were moving shallow the weekend prior, but that didn't seem to be the case during our tournament.

While Cliff fished the rocks, his partner Tom Nicodemus fished some deeper water off the back of the boat. It paid off for Tom (and ultimately Cliff) as he had a limit and took the lead on day one. Cliff caught four fish late in the day on Tom's pattern.

James Kelley had a pair of twins, while Andy Treon had a single three pound fish that took the day one money. Others weighing fish on the first day included Ronnie Hendrickson and Mark "one fish" Ward.

Cliff's pattern held up on day two and he brought the only limit to the scales. Tom was shut out, but his day-one weight was enough to hold onto second as most of the club didn't catch any either. Andy  managed another keeper and took third place.

Jim Norton had a solo four and a half pounder and took the big fish money for the second day and fourth place for the tournament.

Next up is West Point on April 15. It has to get better.

Kelley Takes Control

Early March brought the PTCBA back to Lake Oconee for a single-day tournament. Hopes were high as the year so far hasn't been the greatest as far as catching fish. Our timing has been less than perfect in that a cold front has passed the day before each of our tournaments this year.

James Kelley was the one to beat. He brought in four fish that weighed just shy of ten pounds. Rumor has it he had a five pounder that got off at the boat due to net problems.

Prospective member Zach Hildebrand placed second with three fish and nearly seven pounds. Young Zach didn't hold anything back and spanked his guide from the back of the boat.

Third place went to Tim Griffin who had three fish and a weight of 6.52 pounds. Prospective member and newlywed Leo Perkins had the big fish of the tournament at 3.65 pounds. His two fish total was better than six pounds--enough for fourth place.

Next up is Lake Eufaula on March 25-26.

Whatley Wins!

Lake Sinclair in February wasn't very impressive. What was impressive was Bud Whatley and his catch during tough conditions.

In another tournament where the cold front passed and the fishing was tough, Bud weighed three fish including a 4.61 pounder. His total weight was 8.33 pounds.

Bud's nearest threat for first place was George Edwards. George also had three fish but was almost five pounds behind Bud at 3.35 pounds.

Mike Sullivan continued his good start to the year with a solo bass that weighed 2.40 pounds, and Jim Norton had a pair of fish that weighed 2.07 pounds.

This was Bud's first win since joining the club. Congratulations!

Sullivan Wins Sportsman Of The Year

Mike Sullivan took the coveted Sportsman of the Year trophy home from our annual awards banquet.

The recipient of the Sportsman of the Year is chosen by a secret vote of the general membership. Being chosen for the award is quite an honor as it represents the club member who unselfishly shares help and information with the rest of the club.

The Lunker of the Year award went to Donnie Hendrickson for his 6.62 pound Lake Oconee bass.

Congratulations to both of these guys for a job well done.

Bost Is Back!

After laying off for the past year, Cliff Bost showed everyone that he hasn't lost his touch.

It was a tough Lake Seminole tournament as the water temps just weren't quite where they needed to be for the hot grass bite. Cliff found a few good ones and weighed four fish for an even 14 pounds, including the big fish of the tournament at 5.62 pounds.

Mike Sullivan weighed a sole 4.86 pound lunker on the first day and three keepers on day two. His total weight was 8.80 pounds.

Donnie "If I ever come back to this lake" Hendrickson placed third with two fish and a weight of 5.51 pounds Newcomer Leo Perkins weighed in three fish for a total of 5.29 pounds and fourth place.

There were a few fish caught here and there by other anglers, but no one really seemed to be on a good pattern.
